Chief of Police

Chief Bruce Wade, M.C.J

Chief Bruce Wade is a law enforcement professional with over 25 years of progressive experience in public safety and police leadership. He began his distinguished career in 1998 with the South Carolina Department of Corrections at Evans Correctional Institution. A year later, he transitioned to the Latta Police Department, where he earned the rank of Corporal. From 2001 to 2005, Chief Wade served with the Marion County Sheriff’s Department, advancing through the ranks to the position of Lieutenant.

In 2005, Chief Wade joined the West Columbia Police Department as a patrol officer. His dedication and investigative acumen led to his promotion to Investigator in 2006. By 2012, he was promoted to Captain of Investigations, and in 2021, he was appointed Assistant Chief of Police, playing a key role in departmental operations and strategic planning.

In April 2025, Chief Wade was appointed Chief of Police for the City of Cayce, South Carolina, where he now leads the department with a focus on community engagement, officer development, and public safety innovation.

Chief Wade is committed to lifelong learning and professional growth. He earned both his Bachelor’s (2021) and Master’s (2023) degrees in Criminal Justice from Columbia College. He is currently pursuing a Doctor of Criminal Justice (DCJ) degree at Keiser University.

Chief Wade’s leadership is defined by integrity, accountability, and a deep commitment to building trust between law enforcement and the communities he serves.

Assistant Chief of Police

Assistant Chief Jonathan von Moltke

Assistant Chief Jonathan von Moltke began his law enforcement career in 2012 with the Greenville County Detention Center and was sworn in with the Mauldin Police Department in 2014. In 2015, he moved to Summerville and joined the North Charleston Police Department, where he served in multiple roles including Patrol, School Resource Officer, Police Explorer Advisor, Mobile Field Force Operator, Field Training Officer, and Detective.

In 2020, Assistant Chief von Moltke joined the South Carolina Department of Mental Health Public Safety as a Training Sergeant, also serving as Special Response Team Commander, Advanced Training Instructor, FTO Manager, Training Division Manager, Awards and Recognition Committee Chairman, and Investigator.

In April 2024, he became an Advanced Training Instructor at the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy, where he developed and instructed the Field Training Officer and Field Training Officer Manager Programs and taught a range of specialized courses. In November 2025, he joined the Cayce Police Department, serving on patrol and as a Training Sergeant before being promoted to Assistant Chief of Police.

Assistant Chief von Moltke is a veteran of the US Army Reserve, honorably serving 8 years until he completed his contract in 2017. After his military service, he began attending college, earning an associate’s (2019) and bachelor’s (2022) degree in Business Administration, a graduate certificate in Human Resources Management (2024), and a Master of Science in Organizational Leadership (2026) from Southern New Hampshire University. He is a published author of two books, and a devoted husband, and father of two sons.

Patrol

Captain David Hoffman

Captain David Hoffman began his career with the Cayce Department of Public Safety in January of 1997. He started as a patrol officer and was promoted to Patrol Sergeant in 2000. In 2015 he transferred to the fire department as an Engineer. He transferred back to the police side of the department in 2017. Since that time, he has served a Patrol Sergeant, Lieutenant of Training, C.O.P.S. and is currently serving as the Patrol Captain.

Captain Hoffman attended the University of North Texas and graduated from the University of South Carolina with a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice. Captain Hoffman later graduated from the University of South Carolina School of Law with a Juris Doctor degree. He recently completed the state Certified Public Manager program.

Captain Hoffman enjoys working in the community in which he lives. It gives him the opportunity to meet and assist fellow residents, neighbors, and visitors to the city. He enjoys spending time with his family, walking, and listening to music – from classical to classic rock.
