K9

K9 Division

The Cayce Police Department’s K-9 Unit is a specialized unit that supports the Traffic Safety Unit, the Patrol Division, and the Criminal Investigations Division by performing tracking operations, narcotics detection, searches, and criminal apprehension. The K-9 Unit consists of five officers with their five canine partners; each team participates in countless hours each year training their unique skills with many departments and agencies around the State to maintain proficiency and effectiveness. Not only does the K-9 Unit support Cayce Police Department’s operations, but they also lend assistance to many law enforcement partners in the Midlands area.

Corporal Kimberly Sperbeck & Rocco

Cpl. Sperbeck has been on the K-9 unit since 2017. In November 2018 she was partnered with her second dog, K-9 Rocco, when he was purchased from K9 Dog Center USA in Georgia after being imported from Holland. K-9 Rocco is certified through the South Carolina Police K9 Association in tracking, narcotics detection, criminal apprehension, building clearing, article searches, and obedience. K-9 Rocco has recovered multiple amounts of illegal narcotics, aided in making several arrests, and successfully assisted with seizures of US currency involved in drug activity. In addition to field deployments, Cpl. Sperbeck and K-9 Rocco enjoy attending public events in the community where they educate the public on the uses of police canines. -Gender: Female

-Breed: Bloodhound

 

PSO Poole and K-9 Bella have been partners since she was a puppy. K-9 Bella is a single function canine which means she performs Tracking functions only. Bloodhounds are specifically bred for tracking and they are the best at what they do. K-9 Bella is very sweet and loves being petted all day long. She is a very successful Police K-9 and has many captures under her collar. In her free time she enjoys sleeping a lot to recoup her energy, occasionally she will serenade her handler at night with various types of howls to help him fall asleep also. Her favorite toy is a tennis ball which she and her handler play fetch with in the backyard at home. Bella’s favorite past time is keeping her handler’s home free of squirrels as she chases them about the yard. K-9 Bella loves her job and takes pride in being able to keep her community safe.

He then attended a 5 week long canine handler class at K9 Dog Center USA where he was paired with K-9 Luna, who was imported from the Czech Republic. Together the pair is certified in tracking, narcotics detection, criminal apprehension, building clearing, article searches, and obedience. K-9 Luna is trained on the odors of marijuana, methamphetamine, heroin, cocaine, and ecstasy. K-9 Luna enjoys being a working dog and having a job.

Officer Branham and K-9 Luna are excited to serve the citizens of Cayce and assist surrounding law enforcement agencies. When off duty K-9 Luna enjoys playing with Officer Branham’s other dog, Nova, and playing fetch in the backyard. K-9 Luna’s favorite toy is a Kong and her favorite pastime is jumping over fences like a kangaroo.
